Provides an introduction to Kurdish society and surveys major disciplinary approaches to key topics in Kurdish Studies.
Presents core structural properties of the Kurdish language, describes its geographical variations, and explores its genetic affiliation with other languages of the region.
This graduate-level overview examines the history and literary development of the Kurds from the seventeenth century to the modern era.
In this course, students will learn various quantitative and qualitative research methodologies while honing their academic writing and presentation skills.
Introduces the religious diversity of Kurdistan, including key institutions, important historical figures, and present-day debates.
This course surveys key figures and themes in Kurdish cinema, from the representation of Kurds on film to the rise of Kurdish auteur cinema in the twenty-first century.

Language Requirement: Kurdish proficiency is not required for the completion of the MA degree. However, students are strongly encouraged to take and benefit from the language courses.
Thesis or Capstone: In consultation with an advisor, each student will begin to discuss their thesis interests at the beginning of their second year in the program.
